Sustainable tourism

Maio is the easternmost of the Sotavento islands of Cape Verde. It is a small volcano island located south of the island of Boa Vista and east of Santiago.

Maio is a synonym of  tranquility. It is one of the least visited island of Cape Verde is still relatively unspoilt by tourism; secret white beaches, beautiful dunes, small scale and a relaxed atmosphere.

But Maio is much more than sun, beaches and turquoise water; it is home of endangered species like the Egyptian vulture and the loggerhead turtle. Cabo Verde is the third most important nesting site for the loggerhead sea turtles in the world; within the archipelago, Maio is one of the 3 most important islands for this endangered species, with up to 1000 females coming ashore to nest every year.
