Boom time for Cape Verde’s sea turtles as conservation pays off

Turtle conservation in Maio is featured in The Guardian newspaper this week!

Annika Hammerschlag, journalist with The Guardian, visited Maio recently (she wrote about the Guardians of the Sea, here) and has now written a piece about sea turtle conservation on the island.

Sea turtles are thriving in Maio at the moment – with record numbers of nests last year (2020) and this year record numbers yet again. However, threats still exist for turtles, such as climate change, development and predation by humans, and this is also explored in the article.
